Conveyor Systems
Unique Mining Conveyor Systems
Mining conveyor systems are unique in that they need to move large amounts of materials over greater distances than other types of applications for conveyor belts. This makes the process of designing and building the ideal mining conveyor structure a complicated and involved process.
Many different types of experts need to be involved in the production of mining conveyor systems, one of the most important of these experts being an engineer or an engineering team. An engineering team needs to be involved from the planning phase right through to the implementation phase of the project.
The engineer also needs to be involved in assessing the environment where the mining conveyor system will be operating as well as the type of ore the system will be carrying. Different environments and diverse materials will require the implementation of unique features to be involved.
Another factor that differs between common and mining conveyor systems is that most or even the entire conveyor will be placed outdoors with no protection from the elements. This means that the mining conveyor solution needs to be designed to operate in all kinds of weather. Dust and other outdoor factors will also need to be taken into account in the production of the system.
This makes the materials that the mining conveyor systems are produced from of utmost importance. The materials need to be durable and tough so as not to succumb to deterioration easily. However, deterioration is just about unavoidable in an outdoor environment and therefore regular maintenance also needs to be factored into the design and creation of the systems.
Mining conveyor systems are prone to dropping some of the ore or other materials being made along the system. Techniques such as side panels along the conveyor system need to be implemented along the conveyor system to prevent the loss of these materials. Vacuum systems can also be integrated into the conveyor system to aid in the recovery of lost materials although these vacuum systems are normally only implemented in doors.
Vacuums as part of mining conveyor systems are beneficial as they not only recover materials that fall off the belt but can return these elements directly to the conveyor. Alternatively, these vacuums can be used to dump the lost materials in a holding or storage bin from which they can be recovered at a later date. Less loss of mining ore and other materials will result in more profitability within a specific mine.
There are also a number of different types of mining conveyor belts to choose from that are ideal for the transport of specified materials. These include bucket elevator belts, tough top belts, sidewall belts, impression conveyor belts, raised cleat belts and chevron belts. The type of material to be carried through the conveyor system will determine the most suitable belt for the mining application.
